Well what a
year! Covid 19 certainly affected the tourist industry here in the Charente
Maritime. We on the west coast of France did not really get it bad but we still
had to lock down for 2 months. It happened earlier than the U.K. so all our
spring bookings cancelled and as time went on a lot of our guests cancelled the
summer bookings. All our guests got
their money back either from us or through our advertising websites.
For us this
gave us chance to do all the jobs for improving our gites and the outside
areas, more importantly we very luckally managed to get all our family together
a few days before lock down began and we all spent the 2 months plus
together for the first time in many
years.
When lock
down finished we managed to get out and about for walks along the coast, which
was amazing with only a few people around we had never seen the beaches so
empty. It was not long before the French then other Europeans started to book
our gites, very quickly the summer was just about booked up, this is great for
us all but are hoping that everybody does not get too complacent and they keep
wearing the mask and keep up the social distancing.
We are now fully open for business and look forward
to welcoming our guest. Please note the tour de France was postponed until the 7th 8th & 9th of September here in the Charente Maritime. We still have availability for these dates and the race passes us just a couple of miles away.
